Build your own dating site with WordPress

by KieranJanuary 17, 2015

Online dating has taken the world by storm. It seems that for many people, the less personal approach to breaking the ice with someone works better. As such, the online dating industry has exploded with around 1400 dating sites in the UK and believe it or not, 11% of the UK population are using online dating sites.

I guess it makes sense, you find someone that has the same interests as you, in the same geographic location and the dating sites use complex algorithms to ‘match’ you with someone that you’ll hopefully get on with – so, it removes, for some people, much of the risks of finding a partner.

With the market being so big, you probably want a piece of the pie and want to build your own dating site. There is no reason you shouldn’t try to break into this very lucrative industry. To do so, you can keep the costs as low as possible by building your own dating site. To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Find a web host that supports one click WordPress installs
  2. Install WordPress
  3. Using the menu on the left hand side of your dashboard click on “plugins”
  4. Click “add new” and search for “Buddypress”
  5. Install and activate Buddypress
  6. Using the Buddypress menu on the left of your dashboard, you can configure the site with all the options you want

Now, as far as the basic, core features you’ll need for your site, this is all you’ll need. However, you can extend the features with plugins. Just search on Google for the functionality you need & install the recommended plugins.

Further to the above, you will need to use the “appearance” menu to set up your site navigation. Remember – to make the website look good, you’ll need a nice theme, which can be found at themeforest.net
